The Connectivity Standards Alliance and its members release Matter 1.0
What is Matter? What does it bring to users and business?
If you are not a big fan of smart and IoT devices you could miss that in the end of 2019 top tech companies (over 280 member companies for this moment) is joining an alliance for creating Internet Protocols - Matter, it should become - open smart home connectivity standard, that increase compatibility among smart home products. Currently, many proprietary solutions using different protocols and application layers exist. This led to frustration with developers and consumers.
With Matter, customers get secure, reliable, and seamless to use devices, and users shouldn’t make a painful solution - what ecosystem he should choose for starting building their smart home. You will have the power to choose how you want to control your homes, independent of which smart home technology you choose. Smartphone apps such as the Google Home app and the Apple Home app will also be Matter controllers. Bridges can also be Matter certified to bring their connected products into the Matter ecosystem.
For a business using protocol Matter simplifies product development and reduces costs by giving them one standard for building their products. Companies get access to more potential customers in smart home market which is relatively new and has enormous potential.
Our team for developing IoT and smart products mainly using chips from a Norwegian company - Nordic Semiconductor. Nordic Semiconductor is actively involved and one of the main contributors the development of Matter.
The most often used chip in our designі is nRF52840. It is fully multiprotocol capable with full protocol concurrency. It has protocol support for Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, 802.15.4, ANT and 2.4 GHz proprietary stacks.
We design different devices based on this chip, from home applying to industrial use. We have all the necessary tools for fast prototyping and tests.
Exceptionally low energy consumption, achieved using a sophisticated on-chip adaptive power management system, gives us the possibility to develop extremely power-efficient devices. The resulting device can work as a Matter accessory device. It can pair and be remotely controlled over a Matter network built on top of a low-power, 802.15.4 Thread network.
